The Pet Class is a place for the young and young-at-heart to show off their beloved pets' loveable characteristics and talents. It is targeted toward children but adults may also participate.
There will be two separate Pet Class segments at this year's show. Pet Class I is for children ages 8 & under or for older children who prefer the less competitive format. During the Pet Class I competition, the judges will speak individually to each participant about his or her animal. Every participant will receive an award. Typical award categories include Best Shoulder Sitter, Longest Whiskers and Cutest Face, but participants are encouraged to identify their pets' most winning characteristics for the judges' benefit.
Pet Class II is for children ages 9 & up only. Gerbils in Pet Class II will participate in a Mock Show, judged by our trained AGS Youth Assistant Judges. These capable youth will use their many hours of training to judge gerbils against the AGS breed standards and choose 1st, 2nd and 3rd place ribbons for each class. In the process they will share their knowledge with participants so that children learn just what is involved in choosing, owning and preparing a winning gerbil for show.
Gerbils in either Pet Class I or Pet Class II may also enter Gerbil Olympics Events:
- Chewing Contest (individual or team)
- HamTrak® Gerbil Races
Ribbons will be given for the fastest gerbils and for those who can chew up the most cup or tube in a timed event.
Eligibility
Pet Class animals will need to meet quarantine requirements (no new pets in the home and no pet illnesses within 30 days preceding show) and will be health inspected prior to admittance. All pets should come to the show in a sturdy medium sized Kritter Keeper with clean bedding and a carrot. Pet Class participants must be pre-registered by Wednesday, April 28.
