Judges Comments:

Good compostion and portrait. We all know how hard it is to snap a photo of young pup always on the move and here he looks like he is posing just for his owner. Overall comopostion is really nicely made. The gentle soft sun lighting in contrast to the rough texture of the wood really make the gerbil image feel like it's in a natural enviornment.

The only thing that would be nice to change to even better capture it is the background. A neutral one like white or sand beige would bring out the color of the gerbil. If the photographer has a DSRL camera, mabye more focus on his face to make the fur more clear; if it is taken with regualar camera then it couldn't be better!

What an amount of cuteness overload in only one photo! Perfectly clear details of the fur and whiskers especially since we all know how much young pups tend to wiggle! Adorable pup in central focus inspecting his surroundings curiously. Such interesting color combination of pups in one litter! The owner is really a lucky one.

For future it would be good to capture a larger angle of composition and then crop it out to a good size if their space/tank allows it.

Third Place

Kahlua & pup

Judges Comments:

This one could bear the title "Kiss of Cuteness." This photo has good composition and interesting moments. Use of flash takes away natural lighting and soft surrounding of background that makes photos more gentle and natural but in return give us sharp details of the pups their fur, even in their tiny ears.

Honorable Mention

Peaches

Owner: Chris Bartal, Ohio, USA

Agouti Female

Judges Comments:

This is a really hard moment to capture since mother gerbils do not like to be disturbed in the first days and it gives us insight into the whole litter. Reminds me of text book photos. Really precise and detailed image. Great, clear focus on the pups.

Lighting is even and darker across the whole image. But knowing how hard is to get close to pups in the first days that can be disregarded this time.

Lexi's Litter

Judges Comments:

Adorable image of friendship and cozyiness captured with the camera. Very clear close up that shows off all the details of the fur and tiny paws, soft tone of colors, a peaceful moment preserved in time by this lovely photo. On the down side, one could edit in more contrast in Photoshop but it is generally hard to do it when all the gerbils are the same coloration. They look like they could use more sand. For an amateur photograph I would not ask for anything more.

What a lot of color variations on only one image! Kudos to the owner who made this genetic match of a pair of gerbils. Lovely litter.
