The AGS Story
The American Gerbil Society started up in 1998, and we’ve been on an epic ride ever since. From our humble beginnings as a handful of friends who shared a common interest to launching our first exhibition show in 2002, we’ve stayed true to our core mission of providing support and education to breeders, caregivers, and gerbil enthusiasts.
We believe that Knowledge is Power. We provide information on the humane keeping, breeding and exhibition of gerbils. We educated breeders and judges to adopt the highest standards of excellence.
We believe in Gerbil Showing. We have seen time and time again how coming together to mingle with and compete against other breeders causes people to enjoy their gerbils more, increase their standard of care, and educate about responsible gerbil ownership among their adoption community. Gerbil shows improve outcomes for gerbils, plain and simple.
We believe that Actions Speak Louder than Words. We work closely with organizations like the SPCA and Humane Society to assist in small animal rescue and placement. Additionally we work to increase awareness of the need for laws to govern the humane treatment of gerbils and other rodents.
We believe in Community. We’ve created an online presence to offer outreach support services, facilitate membership and foster a national community of human and gerbil friends alike. We also cooperate with sister societies worldwide to help them as they develop standards and judging expertise, to share resources and ideas, and to participate in each others’ virtual online shows.
We owe a huge thanks to our community for joining us on this awesome journey, and we hope that you’ll continue to be a part of our story.
