Clubbed Feet
Katie Johnson
Occasionally gerbil pups have a condition known as club foot or fixed wrist, where one or both of their front feet is bent in an odd direction. Typically the condition is not an injury and it may or may not be a genetic disorder. The gerbil appear to be missing tendons or the tendons were severed. The result is that the wrist is pulled in one direction and the gerbil can not bend their wrist on their own. In general the gerbil gets by just fine but may have difficulty holding food or running with an odd gate.

Be sure the size and type of cage is manageable and one you can keep clean. It's not all about size. Gerbils need stimulation and ideally time to explore out of the cage: gerbils love to run, climb, dig, nest, take dust baths, tunnel and chew.
