Urinary Tract Infection

Urinary Tract Infections are not common in gerbils. A gerbil with a UTI may walk stiff legged, arch their backs, or walk with their butts high in the air. Their urine may be cloudy, discolored, or odorous. They will need medical attention especially antibiotics. Dried cranberries, not craisens, can be offered to promote good urinary tract health.

Be sure the size and type of cage is manageable and one you can keep clean. It's not all about size. Gerbils need stimulation and ideally time to explore out of the cage: gerbils love to run, climb, dig, nest, take dust baths, tunnel and chew.
